One Is Genuine, The Other False

MATTHEW 6:23_But if thine eye be evil…

If someone gives you the evil eye, they gave you a mean look—very mean! The mean look suggests something evil towards you: physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual. Maybe all of those.

This verse has a similar meaning. The single eye focuses on a relationship with Jesus more than with the world. Your whole being fills with light. The light is Jesus Himself, the Light of the World. 

People with double vision cannot see a single image. The image is doubled either horizontally or vertically. Double vision can affect one eye or both. Corrective lenses can help with vision, and to keep safe from injury to self or others. Jesus is a corrective lens

James 1 (KJV) , “5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. 7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. 8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.”     

Seeing double divides vision—one vision is genuine and the other false.

Prayer with lack of faith is double-mindedness.

PRAYER

God of Wisdom, Help me not to see double, but to see Your truth and believe. In the powerful name of Jesus, Amen.

Christ can clear double vision—I want Him to clear mine!

Freedom Breaks Bondage

MATTHEW 6:22_thy whole body shall be full of light.

Jesus gives courage and light to face every day.  Only the truth can give that. Lies give fear and darkness. God says to Joshua in chapter 1 (KJV):“6 Be strong and of a good courage …,’ and in verse ‘7 Only be thou strong and very courageous …,’ and in verse ‘9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”

The single eye Jesus refers to here means focused on Him, only. Singleness of vision on Jesus keeps you on His path. Never forget, His path leads to freedom.

Freedom breaks bondage. Nothing in bondage is free, and nothing free is in bondage. With your spirit as the mainspring, shackles corrode. The mainspring creates the function of whatever it is operating. For everything to function properly the mainspring has to be free from any encumbrance. An encumbrance is a false part that does not belong.

Jesus wants your focus on Him alone.

Your whole being (body, soul, spirit) will be full of light.     

PRAYER

God of Courage, Help me be strong and of a good courage every day. In the powerful name of Jesus, Amen.

Christ wants me to keep my eyes on Him—I will!

Don’t Give Him the Satisfaction!

MATTHEW 6:22_if therefore thine eye be single…

When Jesus refers to the eye being single He does not mean a person with just one eye. Neither does He mean a person who has sight in only one eye. Jesus is teaching a principle here, not a lesson in physical science.

If you are a person who only has sight in one eye or if you’re totally blind—don’t you dare think you are in some way inferior! Thoughts of inferiority come from the devil—never from Jesus. As Creator, Jesus understands the body, soul, and spirit. He understands the principles by which they operate. He created them to function together, with the spirit being the mainspring.

The devil has no understanding, or even knowledge of how Jesus’ principles of life work. He is the deceiver.  It doesn’t really matter to him how Jesus’ creation works, because he plans to deceive you into believing his lies and not the truth. He knows how to discourage. He knows how to intimidate. He knows how to tempt.

The devil wants to deceive you out of your hope. He knows if he can get your focus off of Jesus, and into a defeated, giving up, I-don’t-stand-a-chance attitude, he’s won a major battle in your life. Don’t give him the satisfaction!

Remember: light expels darkness.

PRAYER

Holy God of Heaven, Help me not to be discouraged by the devil’s lies. In the powerful name of Jesus, Amen.

Christ knows the devil’s lies—He helps me overcome!

It Is Astounding!

MATTHEW 6:22_The light of the body is the eye…

Once the eyes lose sight, light no longer enters the body. Light does not enter through your nose, mouth, or ears. Light enters through your eyes. If you want to be fascinated, take some time to study the process by which this works. It is astounding! Only a highly intelligent being—aka the Lord God Almighty—could have designed it!

You are called to be the Jesus’ light in the world. If you think of the human body as representing the world—salty-lit-up disciples of Jesus are the eyes.

One of my favorite miracles of Jesus is found in John chapter 9 (KJV). Jesus heals a man who was born blind. But, oh my goodness—He does it on the Sabbath! Jesus leaves the scene. Tattle-tales bring the healed man to the Pharisees. The Pharisees have a fit because the man was healed on the Sabbath. The Pharisees kick the healed man out of church (excommunicated). Jesus comes across him, “39 And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind. 40 And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, ‘Are we blind also?’ 41 Jesus said unto them, ‘If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, we see; therefore your sin remaineth.’”

Jesus says you can have eyes which see, yet still be blind. How? Stay with us …

PRAYER

All Powerful Jesus, Praise You that You give Your light to all who seek You. In the powerful name of Jesus, Amen.

Christ gives sight to the spiritually blind—I can see!

It Just Can’t Be Done

MATTHEW 6:20_But lay up for yourselves treasures  in heaven…

When you are consumed with something it fills your life. It takes over all your space.

The love of wealth is so consuming the fruits of the Spirit have no growing space. The sad thing is those fruits are what every human craves. Bondage to wealth deceives. You believe wealth can buy what will satisfy your cravings. It just can’t be done. The fruits which the Spirit produces in you cannot be bought with money.

The first three fruits of the Spirit, love, joy, and peace, are the most sought after virtues in existence. The wealthiest people on the planet would give their treasure to possess those virtues. These are virtues God uses to reward salty-lit-up disciples of Jesus.

People who are not disciples have a thing going with their love of money: believing eventually it will satisfy. 

Acts 5:1-3 (KJV) tells a story of the bondage of wealth: “But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, 2 And kept back part of the price, … 3 But Peter said, ‘Ananias, why hath satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?'”

Peter said Ananias could have kept all his money. But when Ananias lied to keep from giving all—his money bondage was his destruction. 

PRAYER

Magnificent Jesus, I want space for Your fruits to grow in my soul. In the powerful name of Jesus, Amen.

Christ cultivates fruit in me—I will give Him space!
